Dendrobium is one of the largest genera of orchids in the world, currently scientists
estimate that there are at least 1600 species whose habitat is lowlands. The dendrobium
orchid is one type of orchid that is categorized as flowering more often so that it has
various combinations of color variations. Nowadays, the demand for ornamental plants,
especially orchids, is increasing and the number of seeds of superior quality is limited.
Therefore, the researchers carried out propagation by means of in vitro. The purpose of
this study was to understand how the growth response of orchid plants when bred using
coconut fiber and fern roots media. Dendrobium orchid plantlets as a result of subculture
were acclimatized to two media, namely coconut husk and fern root for 4 weeks. The
results showed that dendrobium orchids on both media had a 100% survival percentage
and growth every week for 4 weeks was not significantly proportional but compared to
the growth of orchids on fern media, the growth of orchids on coconut coir media showed
better growth than fern media.
